My name is B.G. and I am a Type 1 Diabetic, otherwise known as juvenile diabetes. I was diagnosed with diabetes at the tender age of 9. Luckily, I was in the honeymoon phase for a year before I was recommended to begin insulin therapy. After many occurrences of extremely low blood sugars that landed me in the hospital and many scares, I overcame a barrier. I overcame the fear of sharing with others that I was a diabetic and I finally set myself free and began the journey of self-care. Years down the road, when I was 18, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime. I was given the chance to use an artificial pancreas. For me, this has been one of the biggest blessings I have received. I am on an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor that has kept my A1C at a stable 7.0 for the past few years. I am eager to see the places we’ll go with new technology in the medical field, I hope others get blessed with the same opportunity!
